5 Podcasts By Women Hunters and Anglers

By: Marcia Brownlee; Artemis Program Manager and host of the Artemis Podcast

I love podcasts. Especially podcasts about hunting, fishing and conservation. They are easily accessible, entertaining, and informative. They challenge my perspectives and do a lot to keep me inspired.

Right now, there are a total of over 900,000 podcasts and 28 million episodes. Four years ago, only 12.5% of available podcasts were hosted by women. Today, that number is 22%. However, any browse through the wilderness section of your podcast app will show that number is significantly less in the hunting and fishing world.

Women hunters and anglers are looking for outlets that amplify their stories and reflect their experiences. Here are some hunting and fishing podcasts hosted by women stepping up to do just that. I encourage you to check them out. You’ll find passionate, knowledgeable, bold women leading the way.

The Artemis Podcast – Presented by Hunt To Eat

Big surprise, my favorite is the Artemis Podcast.

Becca Aceto and Maggie Heumann co-host this podcast with me. Join us as we talk to the adventurous, accomplished women who are redefining conservation through their lives in the field and on the water.

This week, we celebrate our 10th episode!!

Picking a favorite is like choosing a favorite child, but Episode 2: The Artemis Genesis Story with Jess Johnson is a great place to start.

The Woman Angler and Adventurer

The Woman Angler & Adventurer podcast hosted by Angie Scott and Barb Carey. Their mission is to inspire women with a passion for fishing and the outdoors to get out there and experience amazing adventures, together blazing a trail for ourselves and generations of women to come.

I especially recommend Episode 118: The Ladies Behind the Godfather of Ice Fishing: Meet the Genz Girls

Her Inspired Journey

Hosted by Courtney LeVesque: A podcast for women – a journey of living your best life and fulfilling your passions from the back country to the table. This show was inspired out of the desire to build community and bring women in the outdoors together to share their passion for the hunt.

Check out the most recent episode: Spring Bear Hunting and Other Things with Sharp Teeth with Alyssa Mahaney.

Woods and Waters Project

Our connection to the outdoors. Stories of hunters, anglers, entrepreneurs, wanderers, and dreamers. Stories of adventure. Stories about living a wild life.

Hosted by Steph Busenbark.

I enjoyed getting to know Steph in Episode 10: It’s okay just being okay.

Anchored with April Vokey

No list is complete without April Vokey.

Join renowned angler April Vokey as she explores fishing, hunting, foraging and homesteading through intimate, face-to-face conversations with some of the outdoor world’s most influential people. Her intense curiosity drives her to take a behind-the-scenes, vulnerable and honest approach with her guests that often ends up uncovering never-before-heard stories.

You really can’t go wrong with any of them. Maybe start with this one: Ep. 149: Meredith McCord Part One
