Makayla Hogan – Michigan

Makayla (Kayla) is from west Michigan. She was “forced” into long hunting expeditions as a toddler by her father who carried her in a backpack during whitetail season or pulled her on a sled during rabbit hunting season. Her dad made it a tradition to skip school and go fishing on her birthday every year and to give back by buying at least 500 seedlings to improve the family hunting land each year. By 12 years old, Kayla had a successful turkey hunt, a successful antlerless archery and rifle whitetail deer hunt, and helped her father train their hunting beagles. After successful harvests, Kayla was required to help her father or grandfather process the animals. Kayla takes pride in the many recipes and tricks she has learned from watching all of her family members throughout her lifetime and looks forward to teaching others what she knows.

Kayla is is looking forward to expanding her knowledge and community through Artemis. She is also excited to help others learn the importance of caring for our natural resources and how to integrate the outdoors into their busy lifestyle.
